3 Essential Stops During your St. George Trip

As you read this blog post, remember this is written from an Idahoan point of view. This is a list of our favorite things to do in St. George and surrounding areas (Irving, Santa Clara, Washington).

The reason Southern Utah is popular to Idahoans and other Northerners is the year-round outdoor activities that bless this beautiful red rock region.

Kanarra Falls is a favorite spot amongst visitors and locals alike. Along this hike I found most of my fellow travellers were around the 40-50 year old age. There were few children on this hike, but it would be possible to take young kids (no younger than 8 years old) on this hike to the first falls. To make this hike as comfortable as possible, I wore my favorite Under Armour Charged Bandit Trail Running Shoes and carried my Quest 2L Hydration Pack. However, there were several others wearing hiking sandals, flip flops, and even Vans. In my personal opinion, this hike would be possible without hiking shoes, but not with ease. About 40% of this hike was trodding through unavoidably rocky water which is why I choose to wear my trail shoes instead of my go-to favorite, Chaco open-toe sandals. The local ranger explained the water throughout the hike is lower in the summer and higher in the spring, due to the flash floods occurring during that time of year. (As I write this post September 2nd, 2021, the log ladder to the first falls has been washed away and it is very difficult to impossible to climb over the first falls). Even hiking to the first falls was worth the $12 ticket price and short 40 min. drive from St. George. Click here to buy tickets.

I sincerely believe everyone should experience this next activity at least once in their lifetime. We rented eBikes from the perfect spot in Ivins, 20 mins from St. George. Shelley, the owner of Snow Canyon eBike Rentals runs her family business from the comfort of her own garage. While some see this as odd, we found this to be the most desirable location of any of the other bike rentals we found in the area. Shelley supplied parking, excellent customer service and loads of information to all the must see stops. The home was a short quarter of a mile to the Snow Canyon National Park entrance. To enter the park the cost is $5 for up to 10 bike riders or hikers. Everyone needs to experience national parks this way. You will never be able to experience national parks any other way after you’ve ridden through on bikes. The paths were all well kept with several park rangers along the way, bathrooms, signs to help guide you, and a plethora of must see stops.

Petrified Dunes

Alright, let's talk food. Island Grinds has the best chicken katsu in the area, Handels is my number one ice cream shop. Zeppe’s Italian Ice cannot be beat when it comes to italian ice layered with frozen custard. My favorite sushi stop is Sakura Japanese Steakhouse and Hibachi. Mixed Greens deserves a special mention. Mixed Greens is also located in an unusual place. In a shared space with a gas station, Mixed Greens never ceases to excite my tastebuds. Power bowls, acai bowls, power salads, smoothies, and hot grilled chicken chunks are just a few of my hot menu items that tend to make me drool.
